As a Dream Interpreter, the foundation of my method is based on Jungian Dream Interpretation & Analysis.
So Why Use Jungian Psychology For Working With Dreams?
Jungian Psychology is based on the work of Carl Jung (1875 – 1961) whose lifelong study of the human psyche led him to understand that there was far more to the psyche (soul) than what most modern, reductionist psychologies have concluded. His work in particular on the unconscious, archetypes and the transpersonal centre of the psyche is extremely valuable in working with dreams.
At the core of Jungian Dream Interpretation is recognising and working with the archetypal symbols that appear in the narratives of our dreams. Dreams symbols are most often a fusion of the dreamer’s own personal psyche and the transpersonal psyche and this is why using a strictly universal interpretation of symbols (e.g. a cat means xxxx and a snake means yyyy are deeply flawed methods of interpretation.
In order to interpret a dream accurately, a Dream Interpreter & Analyst needs to have an understanding of the dreamer’ psyche as well as an understanding of the rich world of archetypal symbols connected to the transpersonal/archetypal psyche. From this, we are then able to gain deep insights from dreams as to what is unfolding within the dreamer’s own psyche and this can be extremely helpful in becoming more conscious of our own life purpose and more conscious of the world we are a part of.
If you are unfamiliar with Jungian Psychology, the video below is an excellent introduction to Depth Psychology which encompasses Jungian Psychology.
